A Day in Ames

Join us for a fun-filled day in Ames!

Meet us there or hop on the bus at Merkle Retirement Planning.

We will start the morning with a 10 AM guided tour of Reiman Gardens. Reiman Gardens is dedicated to sharing the beauty of plants and to the art and applied science of garden and plant cultivation – known collectively as “horticulture.” Over 6,000 types of plants are grown there; collections include the Buck Rose Collection, Viburnum Collection, Bulb Collection, Pollinator Plant Collection, and more! Please wear comfy shoes.

Around noon, we will head to downtown Ames, where you can explore on your own. There are more than 15 restaurants and 30 shopping destinations in this vibrant downtown.

Those riding the bus: we will leave from Merkle Retirement Planning at 9 AM and return around 4 PM.

If you are driving on your own: meet us at the front entrance of Reiman Gardens, we should be there by 10 AM.

Night at the Iowa Cubs

Join us for an evening of tailgating, socializing, and baseball at Principal Park on Friday, June 7th. The tailgate starts at 4:00 PM near Lot 2. We will have burgers, hot dogs, sides, and cold beverages. We will head into the park at 6:30 PM to watch the Iowa Cubs take on the Toledo Mud Hens. You will also want to stick around for the fireworks show after the game!
Each household will be allotted up to six tickets. This event is for The League members and their family and friends (kids are welcome). If you bring guests, we ask that they are not currently working with Merkle Retirement Planning.
 
We will be tailgating in the grassy area on the west side of Lot 2. Enter off of SW 2nd St (which is a one-way street going north). The parking lot opens at 4:00 PM and costs $13 per vehicle. Parking does fill up quickly, so we recommend arriving close to 4:00 PM if you plan to park at the stadium.

Whether you are experiencing the loss of a loved one, a career, or any loss of something important in your life, all are welcome to explore and process their grief in our monthly support session led by Kathy Koenig, Certified Grief Coach and Caregiving Counselor.

Our Caregiving Circle is a place where individuals can openly share their feelings and struggles around providing ongoing care and support for an adult loved one. This support group is led by Kathy Koenig, Certified Grief Coach and Caregiving Counselor.

BINGO at The Hall

Get ready to yell, BINGO! Join us for BINGO at The Hall in Valley Junction from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. There will be complimentary drinks and snacks. Prizes include a variety of gift cards and Merkle merchandise. Everyone will take home a Merkle mug and notebook. You are welcome to bring a friend.
The Hall is located at 111 S. 11th Street in West Des Moines. It’s a big red brick building immediately south of the tracks.
